Le genti del Velino.

“LE GENTI DEL VELINO”. Comunità Montana Marsica I (AQ) – 2002, ” Anno Internazionale delle montagne”, indetto dall’ONU e dalla FAO. “Le terre alte del massiccio del Velino e la cultura delle sue genti e non la terra dei vinti o i paesi delle fiabe”. La Comunità montana Marsica I, convocherà insieme alle altre Comunità montane della Marsica, al CAI, alle istituzioni locali, ai Comuni, la conferenza di presentazione dell’Anno Internazionale delle montagne e le iniziative che si assumeranno nell’area del Fucino.

Il Comitato italiano AIM ha offerto alle comunità locali un profilo d’orizzonte per impegnare risorse, progettare eventi, dare creatività a questo appuntamento che vuole porre attenzione allo sviluppo sostenibile delle aree montane, “per il benessere delle popolazioni”. Uno degli obiettivi è anche raccontare la realtà dei grandi mutamenti sociali che hanno interessato la zona, la montagna, il Velino, forse dal latino “Vellum” (palude), in epoca romana luogo di antichi laghi che luccicavano sotto la sua antica mole, fino ai bombardamenti del 1944 che la gente, trovando riparo nelle grotte degli ultimi eremiti, ricorda oscurarono il cielo di Massa d’Albe.

Raccontare la montagna quindi e promuovere le sue potenzialità, le sue risorse per uno sviluppo culturale con iniziative concrete come l’istituzione ad Avezzano (AQ) di un “Museo dell’Appennino” che la Comunità Montana Marsica I ipotizza possa raccogliere testimonianze e documenti in un centro di documentazione appunto sulla storia della montagna e delle sue genti: un progetto per non disperdere il ricco patrimonio storico ed ambientale della vasta zona geografica del Velino ” di vette e creste rocciose, valloni cupi e selvaggi, vallate opime che offrono alla vista un contrasto delizioso e sorprendente” come scrivevano i primi esploratori del CAI, nel 1898.

Quadranti territoriali. La ricerca sul campo

La mostra digitale, autore Vincenzo Battista, strumento di comunicazione e documentazione sui Beni culturali assomma in chiave di studio, per la prima volta nel panorama delle ricerche realizzate nel corso di questi anni sul paesaggio marsicano, “i caratteri” architettonici, archeologici, i segni e le permanenze stratificate dall’uomo in un programma prospettico di ampio respiro che ha per destinazione finale la creazione di siti museali da collocarsi dopo un tour promozionale nei comuni oggetto della ricerca sul campo, in una sede stabile ed autorevole designata dalla C. M. (in un progetto in rete, anche telematico su internet) per la fruizione di un utenza culturale sempre più in crescita e dalla forte domanda che comprende anche il mondo della scuola e dell’educazione sociale.

“THE VELINO PEOPLES”. Comunità Montana Marsica I (AQ).
2002 is the “International year of the mountains”, as announced by the ONU and the FAO. “The high lands of the Velino mountain range and the culture of its peoples, not the land of the defeated or the villages of fables”. The Comunità Montana Marsica I, alongside with the other mountain communities of the Marsica, the CAI, the local institutions and the municipalities, will summon a presentation lecture of the International Year of the Mountains and the events proposed to this regard in the Fucino area.

The AIM Italian committee has drawn a scenario where the local communities might employ resources, plan events, offer their creativity to the appointment, to gather an insight into the sustainable development of mountain areas “aiming at the welfare of the populations”. One of the targets is also to tell the history of the great social changes that affected the area, the mountains, the Velino (which possibly derived its etymology from the Latin “Vellum”, meaning swamp), from the Roman times, when an ancient lake reflected sunlight under the mountain’s giant profile, till the 1944 bombings which, as the people who took refuge in the caves of the last hermits still remember, obscured the sky over Massa D’Albe.

In a way, to tell the story of the mountain and promote its potential resources towards a cultural development, through intelligent projects, such as the institution in Avezzano (AQ) of a “Museum of the Apennine” that, according to the Comunità Montana Marsica I, will gather testimonial and documents in a center on the history of the mountain and its people, with the aim to preserve the rich historical and environmental heritage of the wide Velino territory, “rocky peaks and crests, dark, wild valleys and rich landscapes offering amazing contrasts to the eye”, as the first CAI explorers wrote in 1898.

The digital exhibition, an instrument of communication and documentation of Cultural Resources, includes under a researcher’s point of view, for the first time in the last decades within the scenario of the Marsica landscape, the architectural and archaeological “characters”, the signs and the heritage left layer after layer by man. All this within a far-reaching program aiming at the establishment of museum sites after a promotional tour in the municipalities to be researched, in an authoritative center chosen by the Comunità Montana (a territorial body) and also on the internet, so as to satisfy the ever-growing demand for culture, coming also from the field of education and social studies.
